Interesting History of Kerala

Kerala has a rich and ancient history. According to legends, the land of this state was created by Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, who threw his axe into the sea and created a stretch of land that became Kerala.

Kerala was part of the Chera Dynasty, one of the major kingdoms of ancient South India. The region had active trade with ancient Romans, Greeks, and Arabs, especially in spices like pepper and cardamom.

Medieval Period

Colonial Period

The Portuguese were followed by the Dutch, the French, and finally the British. Kerala became a part of the British Madras Presidency. The region was finally reorganized in 1956 and became the present-day state of Kerala.
